Leela Farms – About the Farm
Leela Farms is located in Karkala, Udupi district of Karnataka, surrounded by lush greenery and a naturally rich farming environment. The farm has a long agricultural history of over 50 years, with a strong focus on sustainable and nature-friendly farming practices.
The farm is managed by Shravan Shenoy and H. Shivananda Shenoy, who continue the family’s farming tradition with a commitment to natural and chemical-free agriculture.
Since 1992, the farm has been practicing chemical-free and natural farming, avoiding the use of synthetic fertilizers and harmful pesticides. Instead, the farmers focus on improving soil health and plant growth using natural and organic inputs.
To nourish the soil, the farm uses cow dung manure, vermicompost, and farm-made organic compost. Pest and insect management is done using natural methods such as neem oil spray, cow urine-based solutions, and other traditional farming practices. Weeds are controlled through manual removal and mulching, ensuring that crops grow in a clean and healthy environment.
The farm also follows sustainable methods like crop rotation, green manuring, and organic soil enrichment to maintain long-term soil fertility and ecological balance.
Water for irrigation is sourced from borewells, wells, and rainwater, supporting responsible water usage.
Spread across more than 50 acres, Leela Farms grows a variety of crops including rambutan, mangosteen, sugarcane, nursery plants, ornamental plants, and seasonal vegetables.
The farm also cultivates several indigenous and traditional varieties such as Kantola, Arka Kiran, Gulla brinjal, breadfruit, white velvet okra, and traditional sugarcane varieties, helping preserve biodiversity and native crops.
Leela Farms continues to follow traditional farming wisdom combined with natural practices to produce healthy and chemical-free produce.
